The heavy, high shine varnish on this kitchen table made it really durable but also, with the newly laid wooden floors, really dominant.

Toning it down….

This was a well loved table and perfect for family life – crafted from beautiful oak with a handy extension made it too good (& too expensive) to replace.

“ We didn’t want to paint over the beautiful oak grain ”

Covering up the quality and beauty of the wood was the last thing we wanted to do so instead we enhanced and highlighted it. After extensive sanding to ensure every last inch of the heavy varnished was removed we sponged on a watered down grey chalk paint which soaked into the grain and really made it sing.

Due to the high traffic of family life on this kitchen table we chose to varnish it with a matte varnish to make sure to can withstand heat, scratches and the inevitable spillages.
