The vintage bureau – a practical, pretty and fun bit of furniture to have tucked away in your home. It can be a desk, a drinks cabinet, child’s art zone – whatever you use it for you know that you can close it up and immediately feel clutter free.

A good, solid vintage bureau can be picked up very cheaply and is a fantastic project for painting.

New Lease of Life….

This was a family heirloom but was looking very chipped, faded and sad. It was well made but simply didn’t fit into the aesthetic of the home in which it lived (& was loved). Our client wanted to keep it looking ‘old’ so we used heritage style colours – Versailles on the exterior and primer red on the interior to echo the former leather writing insert it once had. Both of these paint colours by Annie Sloan were in keeping with the piece and were finished with a wax – clear on the exterior and a dark wax inside.

“ We wanted to reinvent our bureau and give it a new function ”

Another heirloom, this bureau with marble top was converted into a drinks cabinet with a zingy lime interior (Pale Lime by Little Green Paint Company).

This one below is used in a more traditional sense and blends perfectly in this seaside cottage.

This bureau has full drawers beneath and has been repurposed as a dressing table. We added some extra detailing in the form of lines to smarten it up a little and these co-ordinate with the same grey paint inside.
